Jay Leno-Featured Rockford Files Pontiac Firebird: The Backstory

Jay Leno with gold Firebird
August 9, 2020 by Richard Piet

You may have seen the segment on Jay Leno’s Garage (see the promo here) featuring the 1978 Pontiac Firebird originally driven by James Garner on-screen on The Rockford Files TV show. Mike Rowe joins him for his own “Roweford Files” drive around Malibu in this fully restored, great looking original screen-used Firebird. We wanted to know the history of this car. So we asked star-car blogger Jim Suva of “The Suva Files” blog, who was a consultant on the car’s restoration. Turns out, this car has quite a history. Check it out!
